Such a powerful and iconic historical figure Lincoln was. The film was amazing because Spielberg can do no wrong. I saw this beautiful amazing portrait of Lincoln on the way out of the theater and fell in love with it. Daniel Day Lewis did an outstanding job portraying Lincoln. Such an emotional and powerful film that touched the hearts of those that love American History. I know I do, it was my second major in college. Intrigue by the fact that this would be another Spielberg success I took the inspiration to draw Lewis’ image and transformed it into a beautiful piece of art. Step by step I see it as the most powerful portrait I have ever done. It was a very enjoyable piece to put together and a film that I strongly recommend for those that appreciate our history. This is art at it’s most emotional, powerful and iconic. Lincoln can do no wrong in art. A historical figure that every American should know of who he was and how he changed the face of American history. This is the beauty of Lincoln in film and in art. I think this portrait would look great in an American History teacher’s classroom. What do you think art fans? Prints will be available soon.

Hungry for more? That’s exactly the feeling I’ve got when I read and saw this fascinating motion picture. It’s definitely going to be one of the movies of the year. The book was so addicting that I couldn’t put it down. Full of detail and fascinating suspense I could define it as a book that it really grabs you. The movie was every bit as good, however. It is very difficult to cover all the details that the book includes into a blockbuster film. As it defines a new meaning for an era where Harry Porter and Twilight left off, The Hunger Games picks up and takes it into a new genre. Kids and adults, males and females are fascinated by it. I was amazed by the book and film that it inspired me to transform Katniss into the world of art. With a pure tone of color pencil I am delivering one of my greatest achievements.
And in the end……he was knighted by the British Empire as he is Sir Paul. One of the greatest performers of all time delivers a grand finale to remember. During the last few minutes as we all waited after some great performers; the bass-man; instrumentalist and man of a thousand voices closes the show with the last three songs on the last Beatles album (Abbey Road) with that lasting and enduring lyric. Golden Slumbers/Carry that Weight/The End; the second part medley of side two still sounds as good as ever. After so many years and tears of joy he took the stage and the night just ended in a high perfect note.
A 30 by 30 colored pencil drawing of Abbey Road by Martin M. RochaA colored pencil drawing of Sir Paul by Martin M. Rocha
A note that transmits, transforms and transcends from music to art and art to music. They still blend together as Paul shows he is still one of the most astonishing show man of all time. He is incredible and after all we could all say that Chris Farley did ask the right questions in that enjoyable humorous interview over fifteen years ago.
A colored pencil drawing of Sir Paul by Martin M. Rocha
“AND IN THE END….THE LOVE YOU TAKE …..IS EQUAL TO THE LOVE YOU MAKE”. Simple and beautiful and Mr. Farley questions “IS THAT TRUE?” Of course it is! The more you give the more you get! “THAT WAS AWESOME!” Awesome is what describes last night performance. Thumbs up!
Making an incredible recovery and coming back with heart and soul, Adele performs like no other. Her performance at the Grammys was so emotional as she sang one of her most popular songs “Rolling in the Deep”. As she began singing you could feel the most incredible vibes going down your soul. You knew the performance was going to blow your mind; and it sure did.
Adele
By the time she began her performance she had already won a few awards. What can you say about the most outstanding performer of the year? With passion and such a strong commotion she was so grateful of how far she has come along. Her album 21 goes back to old fashion delicacy and deliverance to the emotional beats of Blues, Rock and Jazz. Did I miss a Genre? I sure did!! Pure Art. If you have not seen the music video for “Rolling in the Deep” tune in. It is as impressive artistically as it is musically. The art form and music blend in beautifully. There was no surprise for her winning the awards. She deserves to be the most outstanding performer in every step of the way.

Voice, soul, emotion and heart are the four words that describe one of the greatest female performers of all time. English singer Adele sings like no other and her voice has such a powerful commotion and inspiration as it also drives towards despair and heartbreak.
When I first heard that beautiful soulful voice I was astonished with her toning and volume. I was not only impressed with her singing; but listening to “Rolling in the deep” simultaneously with the video I observed how the refinement of art and music continue merging into one another. There was nothing that I could overlook upon all the aspects of the video as it does include elegance and force; both artistically and musically. She has the heart and the soul that separates her from other performers. As her inspiration to unleashed 21 displays all passion from the heart. The heart that is; that I took to draw Adele freehand. I draw with my hands; but most of all from the heart with such an emotion that I can not described.
Some of you art fans believe this is my best work; I feel it is. However, as any artist that seeks to grow and leaving hungry for more; I still don’t feel a 100% satisfied. A good friend told me that it’s the sign of a good artist. Always wanting to explore and find new territories; to me it is only the beginning. Are you hungry for more? Just sit and enjoy the latest 21 steps of Adele with the music of “Rolling in the deep”.
Dedicated to all of you art fans and Marvel enthusiasts. The completion of Captain America has arrived. Three and a half months in the making. How about the upcoming movie for next year; “The Avengers”!! Also in the making; it will be one of the most anticipating movies of 2012.
Captain America
Thor
Thor
In the words of Samuel Jackson who plays Nick Fury; head of Shield; “Gentlemen; you are up!!” What would be their threat? It looks like Loki will be their main enemy. Just like one of Marvel’s first Avengers edition, Thor’s brother will be the one who will probably use that “Unlimited Power”!! That force that evil will try to utilize to rule the world. The Red Skull acquired it, but failed; the Frost Giants were the ones that first used it to conquer humanity, but the Asgardians drove them back to their dimension.
Iron Man
Iron Man War Machine
Now over seventy years later Captain America awakes as a man out of touch and out of time; but thanks to Nick Fury they assemble the greatest clutch of Superheroes to confront a threat that requires teamwork and power. Value your strength, value your power because The Cap, Iron Man and Thor will lead this amazing team. On May 2012 along with the Black Widow, Hulk, Hawkeye and Nick Fury; the Avengers assemble as earth’s Mightiest heroes. What do you think Marvel aficionados? Is next year’s Avengers film going to be an incredible one?
Yes Marvel fans! It was an amazing treat!! A movie most of us art and comic book aficionados will enjoy. From light to shade, from a whisper to a scream this movie has it all. The light and shade is the beauty of the image and its design is what makes this a tribute to the film. Captain is an icon on the screen and in the world of illustration.
Shooting Star 7
This is my latest and most challenging drawing to date; its not so much the sketching; but the merging of colors that I’m utilizing for the first time.
Shooting Star 8
Representing the colors of the United States of America is what makes the Captain special. The colors of the face are combinations that I am trying for the first time. Moving away from the Black and White and Sepia Tone styles to the actual color of the skin brings the process up a bit as it requires more concentration.
Shooting Star 9
What do you think Art fans? Does the Cap measure up to the power and standards of film as it has for years in the world of art? Stay tuned for the final piece as it comes to a close.

The beginning stages of Captain America! One of the most challenging faces to color so far and using a variety of skin color pencils. An enjoyable new challenge and going back into full a different tint mode. Not that I have not worked with this type of shading within the last year; but delighted with the variety of tones of beige .
Blue Shading
Prismacolor
Testing the distinctive Prismacolor shading in a separate poster board is always a procedure that I try when working on the full color mode. Captain America displays blue as he represents the colors of the American flag. The unique tones of blue blend perfectly well together to exhibit the continuous light and shade.
Shooting Star 3
Working on the blue and adding a touch of black to the Navy blue areas to contrast the colors more.
The Process
More Process
The technique requires concentration; but above all it requires the heart and motivation to set the mind into a beautiful piece of art.

I have always been a fan of Music magazines. Ever since the mid to late sixties music journalism had made some interesting headlines. 1968 was no exception; drawing and putting together fictional magazines with real historical events is entertaining as I also consider fan art.
Lennon
The Beatles’ 1968 white album symbolized the historical events of such a fascinating year. Some of these headlines include :
1)Back in the USSR – The Soviet Union invade Checkoslovakia.
2) Mexico 1968 and the Olympic games.
3)Blackbird – Riots in the United States.
4)Happiness is not a warm gun – Luther King and Kennedy.
5)While their guitar gently weeps – Clapton and Hendrix.
Jagger
Morrison
The Lizard King dies under mysterious circumstances. His death in Paris.
Stickabilities
I have always used Stickabilities and transfer letters to bring elegance. Using materials from Blick Art, Crescent and Prismacolor.
Transferring tool
That’s the tool that I use to transfer the letters through rubbing or to straighten sticky letters. As you could see in the process. I apply pressure into the poster board to make the letters strong into the area where it best gives an impressive outlook of art.
The transferring process

One of the greatest musical icons of the 20th century was taken away from Beatles fans way too soon. However, not many people realized that John Lennon was an artist himself. He attended art school and was extremely amazing at drawing.
Lennon 2
I decided to draw this one with different tones of brown to give it that antique photography appearance. Very similar to the Jimi Hendrix portrait, but took photographs of the process. Such details as the hair, mustache and beard was a development that had to be carefully executed.
Lennon 3
The shading between the different tones of brown on the hair was also a step that had to be completed with caution. Once that step was finished the next challenging task was the blurry background. Continuing to use Prismacolor and the Crescent poster board cotton was also utilized. How can cotton be utilized in art?
John Lennon 1940-1980
By carefully sharpening the pencil with a blade over the drawing and carefully rubbing the color. The darker areas I continued to draw them normally; but the lighter shades of brown had to be accomplished with the cotton.

I know its been a long wait for some of you art fans out there; but it’s great to be back into the mode of art. Here he is!! The Mighty Thor makes it’s appearance for you enjoy.
Thor's 2nd lightning strike!
As of right now I’m calling the steps “Lightning Strikes”!! Yes; what a title for each one. Not yet complete, but felt a good teaser would be great for the moment!
Thor's 3rd lightning strike!
The face was the initial Lightning strike as it set the tone for the rest of the piece.
Thor's 4th lightning strike
The arm included a lot of detail as I had to used careful measurements to make every piece of the puzzle accurate. It was quite an enjoyable task.
Thor's 5th lightning strike!
Note that the arm and the chest piece gives it a kind of a 3-d appearance to distinguish the two different parts of the body.
Thor's 6th lightning strike!
As I continue to work in each area, I also worked on the black background. As of right now I have used ten black color pencils. They are all Prismacolor as well as different tones of gray. Final piece coming up soon!! Stay tuned!!
Thor's 7th lightning strike!
Putting in the final touches.
I believe I used a total of twenty two black color pencils. Quite possibly my second drawing with the most dark background. A very enjoyable drawing to put together. Of course the touches of gray gives it that shiny black and white look. What do you think art fans? Does “Thor” measure up to the artistic look of either “Iron Man” or the “Joker”?
Thor's 8th lightning strike!
Before completing the final lightning strike I decided to take one more photograph before completion. The contrast I think its quite striking and the red cape gives it a more domineering display. Once I completed it I ran across to one of the most challenging tasks; “The Letters”. What to say and what to put together? I decided to keep it within the Spanish theme. Marvel, comic books and movies are universal; so the decision came to keep it within the beauty of the Spanish language.
THOR / COURAGE NEVER DIES
The final piece is complete for you Art fans to enjoy. Of course you aficionados know the movie release was May of this year (No; that has nothing to do with Mayo) and putting the release date on top displays a more powerful glance. The movie motto was “COURAGE IS IMMORTAL.” I think “EL VALOR NUNCA MUERE” (COURAGE NEVER DIES) demonstrates a more of a role model to everyday life’s motivation.

Who is your favorite Super-heroe or Super-villian?
The Creation of the Iron Man Part 2
I used different tones of gray to give the mask a shiny metal appearance.
The Creation of the Iron Man Part 3
The color contrast from light to shade makes the eyes stan out more.
The Creation of the Iron Man Part 4
The hand was the most detailed part of the drawing as each finger had to perfect.
The Creation of the Iron Man Part 5
I combined the reds with different tones of brown to display a more solid view.
The final step to the creation of the Iron Man!
Iron Man
One of the most fascinating steps in completing both Dark Knight and Iron Man was the foggy background effect. I simply used cotton and rubbed Prismacolor led on the poster board paper.
The Dark Knight (Part 1)
As you could see how the background fades from the foreground of the Joker.
The Dark Knight Part 2
Part two was before adding the letters.
The Dark Knight Part 3
The Dark Knight
One of my students gave me the idea of creating the movie poster in Spanish. Being a comic book fan; both are a representation and appreciation of two great films.

I’m currently working on a special drawing that has emotion and hope. One of the most precious themes in the world of art are children.
Step 1 for "All for Japan"
Children bring a special touch to art as it delivers enlightenment and charm. They symbolize peacefulness as their images captivate innocence and add color to life and nature.
Step 2 for "All for Japan"
As you could see the development of “All for Japan”, the drawing is divided into several sections. As the progress moves into further stages you will see how it has a different feel then some of the art that I have displayed from previous posts.
Step 2 for "All for Japan"
I have been using some of the greatest qualities of fonts from Headlinesign to express a special message to the people of Japan. In addition, I included bright colors within the black and white portraits of the children. The flourishing of the flowers are arranged to intensify a similar representation to the elegance of black and white photography.
Step 3 for "All for Japan"
Stay tuned for the finishing touches of “All for Japan” as it’s approaching the final stages.

Step 4 for "All for Japan"
What do you think art fans? The appearance of two black and white photographs and a postcard overlapping displays a 3D appearance; a view of prayer and hope as it unfolds. As a final step, the background poster board illustrates an envelope with two postage seals to enhance its significance. It is not everyday that we encounter such powerful, meaningful messages that touch our everyday lives.
Final Step "SAKURA / ALL FOR JAPAN"
It was definitely one of the most powerful and enjoyable pieces of art I have done. I appreciated your compliments on Facebook and enjoyed reading all of the wonderful words; comments that came from the heart. I included the following quotes from such amazing people.
“Such a strong message yet so delicate”
“Absolutely soul stirring”
“This brought tears to my eyes”
“My favorite things about this piece are its meanings; the Sakura (cherry blossom), the children, and the Land of The Rising Sun. All have great significance…very tastefully executed.”
My inspiration came during the famous Chicago Blizzard of February 2nd. I remember enjoying the moments as the blizzard came down upon us. The more the snow fell the more incentive I had to keep creating.
BEHIND BLUE EYES "Baby Step 1"
Motivation came from the beauty of the black and white photography I was admiring while homebound. While the light and shadows had amazing depth, I felt I wanted to add something more. I thought how simply amazing what a touch of color could bring to the images.
BEHIND BLUE EYES "Baby Step 2"
Almost immediately, I was drawn to an image of my nephew. I decided to try the technique of adding color to black and white by highlighting his gorgeous eyes. I was extremely pleased with the results.
BEHIND BLUE EYES "Baby Step 3"
The aptly titled “Behind Blue Eyes” brings the viewer’s attention to one of the most stunning aspects of my nephew. The blue in stark contrast to the black and white was just the touch the seemed to complete the drawing.
