Horrible Bosses and beautiful women / Jennifer Aniston, Pamela Anderson and Jessica Alba by Martin M. Rocha

Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston

A phenomenal actress and a beautiful woman, I completed this colored pencil drawing two years ago, but decided to make her eyes blue to give it a nice shine and glare. Her latest movie “Horrible Bosses” is a must see. A great comedy full of laughs; a film many people can relate too. Jennifer Aniston’s role is fantastic, but her look as a brunette makes the beauty of her eyes stand out more. I think it is the her best look ever.

Pamela Anderson

Pamela's progress

Unfortunately I never took photographs of the process when working on the Jennifer Aniston drawing. By the time I began the process on Pamela Anderson I enjoyed taking pics of how it was developing.

Pamela Anderson

Pamela's Progress

Pamela Anderson

Pamela Anderson

An advocate of animal rights she is well respected and a beautiful woman, she truly speaks out in what she believes in and has a very humble personality as she has helped many people who are less fortunate. These two images measure 20 by 30.

Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba

This is a 16 by 20 portrait by Jessica Alba; another beautiful and fantastic woman. After all she did play a great character in the Marvel movie “Fantastic 4” as the Invisible woman. However, one of my favorite films by her is the Horror thriller “The Eye”. I strongly recommend it.

KEEP AN “EYE” ON THOSE HORRIBLE BOSSES.

The Who : Who are you and who are they? by Martin M. Rocha

Collage

Yes!! They are loud, talented and artistic. The who made it to the Guinness book of world records as the loudest band in the world in the mid seventies. One of their shows in 1976 was measured at 120 decibels; that’s as loud as a jet’s engine. In today’s standards no band are allowed to play that loud. They are a fascinating band that included one of my all time favorite drummers; Keith Moon. I drew this collage from a set of some of my favorite black and white photographs and gave it a unique format to the design on each one. It measures 24 by 36.

Who are you

I drew this album cover about 8 years ago and enjoyed the process. A bizarre twist to the drawing is the fact that drummer Keith Moon is sitting on a chair that read “Not to be taken away”! He died within a few weeks after the album’s release.

Who's next

If you think that was bizarre, how about a fun turnaround to this drawing from one of my favorite masterpieces; “Who’s Next”. For years I thought those were their shadows on the senseless monument; but it turns out they just pissed on it and their album title is more like “Who’s next to go number one?”. Its number one in my book. A tribute to one of my favorite bands.

Led Zeppelin : Fan art and mystery : by Martin M. Rocha

Page and Plant

Yes! Led Zeppelin almost made it to Latin America, but unfortunately never did. I drew this one two years ago as a tribute to their almost South American tour. During the mid to late seventies they cancelled possibilities to play some shows; due to tragedies to Robert Plant’s car accident in Greece and family death fans were left hanging. Its interesting how the myth of making a deal with Lucifer guarantees a life of success and temptation, but in some cases you pay the price.

Swan Song

Very fascinating how the Swan Song logo is a painting called EVENING : FALL OF DAY : LUCIFER RISING; a possible connection with their mystery and interest of the occult. Combining the Led Zeppelin logo along with the old painting gives it a more detailed appearance. The combination of all their album covers makes this drawing a stand out.

Led Zeppelin Collage

Drawing a tribute from their music catalog; from their debut album “Led Zeppelin” to their last “In through the outdoor”!! As many fans call them “The Zepps” who have some of the best collection of music. They don’t disappoint; their sound is so distinctive and unique they manage to impress their fans musically as well as artistically.

Captain America : The First Avenger fan art by Martin M. Rocha

Yes Marvel fans! It was an amazing treat!! A movie most of us art and comic book aficionados will enjoy. From light to shade, from a whisper to a scream this movie has it all. The light and shade is the beauty of the image and its design is what makes this a tribute to the film. Captain is an icon on the screen and in the world of illustration.

Shooting Star 7

This is my latest and most challenging drawing to date; its not so much the sketching; but the merging of colors that I’m utilizing for the first time.

Shooting Star 8

Representing the colors of the United States of America is what makes the Captain special. The colors of the face are combinations that I am trying for the first time. Moving away from the Black and White and Sepia Tone styles to the actual color of the skin brings the process up a bit as it requires more concentration.

Shooting Star 9

What do you think Art fans? Does the Cap measure up to the power and standards of film as it has for years in the world of art? Stay tuned for the final piece as it comes to a close.

Caylee Marie Anthony transformed in the world of art / 2005-2008 by Martin M. Rocha

Caylee Marie Anthony - 1st Step to Heaven

Sometimes in life I just get inspire by a recent major event. Events affect our lives; the way we think, the way we feel and the way we express ourselves. Its sad when you read about someone passing away; but what makes it more difficult is when is an innocent child that was barely 3 years old.

Caylee Marie Anthony - 2nd Step to Heaven

Caylee was a beautiful little girl and she is now an inspiration in the world of art. I just began this drawing about 3 hours ago; but this time I decided to work on it without any grids and just use the computer screen as the main pose. This is one of the smallest portraits I am working on as it measures 11 by 17. Quite a big difference from my usual 16 by 20, 18 by 24, 24 by 30. I am not quite sure how long it will take to the completed product; but I will be working on it for the next few hours. Stay tuned for next steps to heaven as well as the final piece.

Caylee Marie Anthony 3rd Step to Heaven

Last minute inspirations in the world of art can bring such strong emotions.

Captain America by Martin M. Rocha Art – The Process

Shooting Star 1

Shooting Star 2

The beginning stages of Captain America! One of the most challenging faces to color so far and using a variety of skin color pencils. An enjoyable new challenge and going back into full a different tint mode. Not that I have not worked with this type of shading within the last year; but delighted with the variety of tones of beige .

Blue Shading

Prismacolor

Testing the distinctive Prismacolor shading in a separate poster board is always a procedure that I try when working on the full color mode. Captain America displays blue as he represents the colors of the American flag. The unique tones of blue blend perfectly well together to exhibit the continuous light and shade.

Shooting Star 3

Working on the blue and adding a touch of black to the Navy blue areas to contrast the colors more.

The Process

More Process

The technique requires concentration; but above all it requires the heart and motivation to set the mind into a beautiful piece of art.

Drawing Thor

Drawing Thor was very enjoyable to me. One of the greatest, most amazing things about the process of drawing is the coloring. Weather your election is black and white photography or a combination of both; black and white with color; its amazing when a piece of art develops into realism. You can touch it, you can see it from a distance, you can analyze it and question it. The curiosity is there. How does an artist put together all the important elements from a photograph into paper?

It is an art form that some of us have that we as artists have learned to improve upon as a gift. It’s something so valuable that transmits joy and happiness to the world. It is a beautiful feeling when you see a photo of your favorite artist, musician or superhero and you want to transform it into a drawing. It is a very similar process to when someone poses for you; when someone can transfer from real life to realism in art.

Its amazing what a color pencil and paper can do. Applying the color and shading is a beautiful thing. The drawing is a step; the coloring is a giant leap.

The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Doors and Art : by Martin M. Rocha Art

I have always been a fan of Music magazines. Ever since the mid to late sixties music journalism had made some interesting headlines. 1968 was no exception; drawing and putting together fictional magazines with real historical events is entertaining as I also consider fan art.

Lennon

The Beatles’ 1968 white album symbolized the historical events of such a fascinating year. Some of these headlines include :

1)Back in the USSR – The Soviet Union invade Checkoslovakia.

2) Mexico 1968 and the Olympic games.

3)Blackbird – Riots in the United States.

4)Happiness is not a warm gun – Luther King and Kennedy.

5)While their guitar gently weeps – Clapton and Hendrix.

Jagger

Morrison

The Lizard King dies under mysterious circumstances. His death in Paris.

Stickabilities

I have always used Stickabilities and transfer letters to bring elegance. Using materials from Blick Art, Crescent and Prismacolor.

Transferring tool

That’s the tool that I use to transfer the letters through rubbing or to straighten sticky letters. As you could see in the process. I apply pressure into the poster board to make the letters strong into the area where it best gives an impressive outlook of art.

The transferring process

The Beatles fan art : John Lennon 1940-1980 (Sepia Tone style)

Lennon 1

One of the greatest musical icons of the 20th century was taken away from Beatles fans way too soon. However, not many people realized that John Lennon was an artist himself. He attended art school and was extremely amazing at drawing.

Lennon 2

I decided to draw this one with different tones of brown to give it that antique photography appearance. Very similar to the Jimi Hendrix portrait, but took photographs of the process. Such details as the hair, mustache and beard was a development that had to be carefully executed.

Lennon 3

The shading between the different tones of brown on the hair was also a step that had to be completed with caution. Once that step was finished the next challenging task was the blurry background. Continuing to use Prismacolor and the Crescent poster board cotton was also utilized. How can cotton be utilized in art?

John Lennon 1940-1980

By carefully sharpening the pencil with a blade over the drawing and carefully rubbing the color. The darker areas I continued to draw them normally; but the lighter shades of brown had to be accomplished with the cotton.

The Beatles Fan Art: The great art and death clues behind Sgt Pepper and Abbey Road.

Sgt Pepper

Many Beatle fans know the enigma surrounding the death clues in Beatles’ songs and album covers; but many never heard of such a myth. This is where the beauty of art and music connect. Sgt Pepper was no exception as clues where discovered. When I completed these drawings 11 years ago I was so intrigued by the mystery.

One of those mysteries include : If you place a mirror covering the letters of the words “Lonely Hearts” it points at Paul McCartney as it reads “I ONE I HE DIE” (Claiming three Beatles minus one).

Sgt Pepper "The Grave"

It also resembles the grave of Paul McCartney. The hand over his head also displays a symbol of death. There are other clues as well; but Abbey Road (see below) is the most interesting of all.

Abbey Road

Impressive artistically as well as musically Abbey Road shows the following :

1) Paul is out of the step of the other three.

2)He is holding a cigarette on his right hand when he is left handed.

3)His eyes are closed.

4)The Volkswagen Beetle reads “LMW 28 IF” meaning “Linda McCartney Weeps 28 if he was alive”

5) He is barefooted. (Amazing!! Isn’t it?)

6) THE MOST INTERESTING OF ALL ; HOW THEY ARE DRESSED : JOHN IS THE PREACHER, RINGO IS THE UNDERTAKER, GEORGE IS THE GRAVEDIGGER AND PAUL IS THE CORPSE.

Thor : Fan Art / The God of Thunder’s lightning strike and future Avenger Chris Hemsworth

Thor's 1st lightning strike!

I know its been a long wait for some of you art fans out there; but it’s great to be back into the mode of art. Here he is!! The Mighty Thor makes it’s appearance for you enjoy.

Thor's 2nd lightning strike!

As of right now I’m calling the steps “Lightning Strikes”!! Yes; what a title for each one. Not yet complete, but felt a good teaser would be great for the moment!

Thor's 3rd lightning strike!

The face was the initial Lightning strike as it set the tone for the rest of the piece.

Thor's 4th lightning strike

The arm included a lot of detail as I had to used careful measurements to make every piece of the puzzle accurate. It was quite an enjoyable task.

Thor's 5th lightning strike!

Note that the arm and the chest piece gives it a kind of a 3-d appearance to distinguish the two different parts of the body.

Thor's 6th lightning strike!

As I continue to work in each area, I also worked on the black background. As of right now I have used ten black color pencils. They are all Prismacolor as well as different tones of gray. Final piece coming up soon!! Stay tuned!!

Thor's 7th lightning strike!

Putting in the final touches.

I believe I used a total of twenty two black color pencils. Quite possibly my second drawing with the most dark background. A very enjoyable drawing to put together. Of course the touches of gray gives it that shiny black and white look. What do you think art fans? Does “Thor” measure up to the artistic look of either “Iron Man” or the “Joker”?

Thor's 8th lightning strike!

Before completing the final lightning strike I decided to take one more photograph before completion. The contrast I think its quite striking and the red cape gives it a more domineering display. Once I completed it I ran across to one of the most challenging tasks; “The Letters”. What to say and what to put together? I decided to keep it within the Spanish theme. Marvel, comic books and movies are universal; so the decision came to keep it within the beauty of the Spanish language.

THOR / COURAGE NEVER DIES

The final piece is complete for you Art fans to enjoy. Of course you aficionados know the movie release was May of this year (No; that has nothing to do with Mayo) and putting the release date on top displays a more powerful glance. The movie motto was “COURAGE IS IMMORTAL.” I think “EL VALOR NUNCA MUERE” (COURAGE NEVER DIES) demonstrates a more of a role model to everyday life’s motivation.

JAPAN : Martin M. Rocha Art’s “Sakura / All for Japan” donation.

My two Inspirations for the "Sakura / All for Japan" proje

I took the time to take pictures of my latest art work with my two inspirations. It was a joy putting this project together as I made the idea and vision a reality!

A special moment!

Satoko was very welcoming in accepting the donation for the project and took the time for some photographs to be taken. It was an honor to meet her.

Thank you Satoko

“Sakura / All for Japan” was a special gift from the heart, a donation for the beautiful people of Japan. It was an emotional experience at the Japan Consulate in  downtown Chicago.

Iron Man / Dark Knight Fan Art : The Creation of the Iron Man and the Joker by Martin M. Rocha

The Creation of the Iron Man Part 1

Who is your favorite Super-heroe or Super-villian?

The Creation of the Iron Man Part 2

I used different tones of gray to give the mask a shiny metal appearance.

The Creation of the Iron Man Part 3

The color contrast from light to shade makes the eyes stan out more.

The Creation of the Iron Man Part 4

The hand was the most detailed part of the drawing as each finger had to perfect.

The Creation of the Iron Man Part 5

I combined the reds with different tones of brown to display a more solid view.

The final step to the creation of the Iron Man!

Iron Man

One of the most fascinating steps in completing both Dark Knight and Iron Man was the foggy background effect. I simply used cotton and rubbed Prismacolor led on the poster board paper.

The Dark Knight (Part 1)

As you could see how the background fades from the foreground of the Joker.

The Dark Knight Part 2

Part two was before adding the letters.

The Dark Knight Part 3

The Dark Knight

One of my students gave me the idea of creating the movie poster in Spanish. Being a comic book fan; both are a representation and appreciation of two great films.

Martin M. Rocha Art : ALL FOR JAPAN / Art for the beautiful people of Japan.

Step 1 for "All for Japan"

I’m currently working on a special drawing that has emotion and hope. One of the most precious themes in the world of art are children.

Step 1 for "All for Japan"

Children bring a special touch to art as it delivers enlightenment and charm. They symbolize peacefulness as their images captivate innocence and add color to life and nature.

Step 2 for "All for Japan"

As you could see the development of “All for Japan”, the drawing is divided into several sections. As the progress moves into further stages you will see how it has a different feel then some of the art that I have displayed from previous posts.

Step 2 for "All for Japan"

I have been using some of the greatest qualities of fonts from Headlinesign to express a special message to the people of Japan. In addition, I included bright colors within the black and white portraits of the children. The flourishing of the flowers are arranged to intensify a similar representation to the elegance of black and white photography.

Step 3 for "All for Japan"

Stay tuned for the finishing touches of “All for Japan” as it’s approaching the final stages.

Step 3 for "All for Japan"

Step 4 for "All for Japan"

What do you think art fans? The appearance of two black and white photographs and a postcard overlapping displays a 3D appearance; a view of prayer and hope as it unfolds. As a final step, the background poster board illustrates an envelope with two postage seals to enhance its significance. It is not everyday that we encounter such powerful, meaningful messages that touch our everyday lives.

Final Step "SAKURA / ALL FOR JAPAN"

It was definitely one of the most powerful and enjoyable pieces of art I have done. I appreciated your compliments on Facebook and enjoyed reading all of the wonderful words; comments that came from the heart.  I included the following quotes from such amazing people.

“Such a strong message yet so delicate”

“Absolutely soul stirring”

“This brought tears to my eyes”

“My favorite things about this piece are its meanings; the Sakura (cherry blossom), the children, and the Land of The Rising Sun. All have great significance…very tastefully executed.”
